This violin is by David Stirrat, an interesting maker of the Edinburgh school, who was a follower of Matthew Hardie. The one-piece quarter sawn maple back is of varied curl. The two-piece spruce table is of wide grain. The varnish is a dark red-brown color over an orange-gold-brown ground color. Measurements: Length of Back: 350 mm, Upper Bouts: 165 mm, Middle Bouts: 115 mm, Lower Bouts: 206 mm.
