A very rare and wonderful small violin or “violino piccolo” (3/4 size by today?s standards), by Rome?s greatest 18th century maker, and in superb condition It bears it original label: David Tecchler fecit/ Romae Anno Dni 1736; The two-piece slab cut maple back is of horizontal narrow curl. The two-piece spruce table is of fine grain broadening by the f-holes and then narrowing towards the flanks. The varnish is a orange brown color over a pale golden ground. Measurements: Length of Back: 339 mm, Upper Bouts: 150 mm, Middle Bouts: 105mm, Lower Bouts: 192 mm.
