A Guarneri model violin made by the prolific English luthier George Craske, labeled: Made by George Craske/ (born 1797, died 1888)/ and sold by/ William E. Hill & Sons, London. It is in his typical somewhat rustic semi-antiqued manner.The two-piece maple back is of narrow curl on top with broader curl towards the bottom, descending from the center joint. The two-piece spruce table is of fine grain broadening towards the flanks. The varnish is a reddish orange brown color over a pale yellow golden ground. Measurements: Length of Back: 351 mm, Upper Bouts: 163 mm, Middle Bouts: 112 mm, Lower Bouts: 199 mm.
