A full sounding viola made by Jago Peternella, and in excellent condition. Peternella was well known as a viola maker and moved from Verona to New York City the year after this viola was made. The two-piece maple back is of horizontal narrow curl very slightly ascending from the center joint. The two-piece spruce table is of medium grain narrowing towards the flanks. The varnish is a deep reddish brown color over pale yellow ground. Measurements: Length of Back: 435 mm, Upper Bouts: 203 mm, Middle Bouts: 135 mm, Lower Bouts: 252 mm, String Length: 387 mm.
