In a particularly fine state of preservation, this violin was made by the Viennese Imperial Court’s appointed violin maker, Johann Josef Stadlmann, c.1750. The one-piece maple back is of narrow-medium curl descending from left to right with an impressed brand of the Austrian two-headed eagle at the top and a smaller one at the bottom. The two-piece spruce table is of even fine grain. The varnish is a dark reddish brown color. Measurements: Length of Back: 357 mm, Upper Bouts: 166 mm, Middle Bouts: 112 mm, Lower Bouts: 207 mm.
