Tyrolean, Violin, c.1770

This very fine & attractive violin is a comfortable 7/8-size of the Tyrolean School, and possibly made by Anton Rief. The one-piece maple back is of mostly plain grain. The two-piece spruce table is of very fine grain. The varnish is an even amber brown color. Although ?1668″ is inked on the back of the head, we think this was made about a century later. Measurements: Length of Back: 346 mm, Upper Bouts: 156 mm, Middle Bouts: 109 mm, Lower Bouts: 194 mm.
